FRED OLSEN CRUISES
CRUISING WITH FRED. OLSEN CRUISE LINES
Fred. Olsen cruises is a traditional British cruise operator, consisting of four small-mid-sized ships, Balmoral, Black Watch, Boudicca and Braemar. The company started trading commercially in 1966 after acquiring the Black Watch and the now defunct Black Prince. They sail all around the world, including Northern Europe, Baltics, Mediterranean, Adriatic, Canaries, Caribbean, Africa, Canada, USA and South America.
The affordable, traditional, British-style cruising is popular amongst many well-travelled cruisers. Attention to detail with service is important, with waiters remembering your favourite drink, along with ensuring a friendly, cosy atmosphere is created- guaranteeing people will leave with a huge smile on their face.
The classic cabaret acts and comedy nights will keep you entertained, whilst the string trios and expert musicians will add to the peaceful ambience rarely executed with the more robust cruise lines. Theme nights such as Rock n Roll night are always popular, and are great for mingling with other guests on board.
Tuck in to a buffet through the day, or go al fresco. An Afternoon Tea in the lounge by the piano is also an option, followed by a delightful evening dinner. Whether it’s marinated salmon or lamb shanks, the quintessentially British menu will ensure you leave with a fulfilled appetite with its 5-course menu spectacular. The emphasis is on fish dishes to keep in line with the cruise line’s Norwegian heritage, but vegetarian and very healthy options are available as well.
Comfortable en suite cabins provide a TV, hairdryer, air conditioning and a safe for all your valuables. For the extra-special occasions, enquire about the Suite Dreams package, in which a welcome bottle of sparkling wine will be added, along with afternoon canapés and shuttle coach vouchers, amongst other benefits.
On board leisure facilities include swimming pools, Jacuzzis, a gym and spa treatments, so lounging by the pool whilst reading a book has never been easier.

Accommodation Onboard Fred Olsen Cruise Ships
Your cabin onboard a Fred. Olsen ship is your home from home, with a wide variety of cabins to suit your needs. Fred. Olsen also has a substantial number of single cabins on board all their ships, as they recognise that paying a supplement for a twin cabin just adds to the expense of your holiday. Or if you'd rather, they offer shared cabins (same sex only) where you may meet a new friend.
FRED. OLSEN CRUISE LINE DRESS CODE: SEMI-FORMAL
We recognise that those who are new to cruising may be wondering what is appropriate to wear onboard a Fred. Olsen cruise ship. They have a relaxed formal atmosphere onboard the ships, so to help you decide what to pack, we have put together some simple guidelines:
Daytime Wear Onboard Fred. Olsen Cruise Ships
During the daytime Fred. Olsen recommend comfortable shoes, which are essential for going ashore, sightseeing, and walking on deck. As the sun begins to set a lightweight jacket or coat is recommended. During the day the restaurants request you adhere to an appropriate dress code e.g. no swimwear.
Evening Wear Onboard Fred. Olsen Cruise Ships
The evening is generally speaking informal, with gentlemen wearing jacket and tie (lounge suit or sports jacket is fine) and ladies smartly dressed. On 'Formal' evenings, gentlemen will prefer to wear 'black tie' with ladies elegantly dressed in cocktail or evening dress. As a guideline there are usually four formal nights on a two-week cruise. Details will be supplied with your travel documents. During your cruise there will be some casual as well as themed evenings, such as 'Tropical Evening' or 'British Night'
Suit Hire On Fred. Olsen Cruise Ships
To make your evenings even more relaxed and memorable they now have a very special formal hire service available. Hiring or packing dress suits for formal nights can be a bit of a chore, but a solution is at hand. 'Floating Formals' is a suit hire service, which you can pre-book by telephone from your home. When you arrive on board, your tuxedo will be pressed and waiting for you in your cabin. When the cruise is over all you need to do is leave the garment(s) with reception. It's that simple!
Hire rates start from £68 for cruises of 14 days or less. Suit hire is available for longer cruises on request. The service is available on cruises departing from Dover or Southampton and orders can be placed up to 72 hours before your sailing date. Arrangements and prices are correct at the time of going to print, and may be subject to change. Please be aware this service is not available for fly cruises.
