Crystal Cruises was created in 1988 with a vision to set a completely new standard in luxury travel and world exploration. Exceptionally designed ships would incorporate the best design concepts of legendary ocean liners and world-class hotels, styled with all the latest advancements of modernity. Destination-rich itineraries would span the globe, offering discerning travellers unprecedented opportunity for intimate and authentic shore-side discovery.

Crystal Cruise Ship

The first ship, Crystal Harmony, debuted in 1990 to international acclaim, heralded for its tremendously spacious public areas reminiscent of grand ballrooms, lavish casinos and splendid dining rooms. Equally as impressive were the intimate lounges, traditional bars and dedicated spaces for specialty restaurants and personal enrichment. Generously appointed veranda staterooms and sumptuously styled suites and penthouses were among the largest in the industry, drawing raves from discerning travellers and compliments from competitors.

But what truly set Crystal Cruises' debut apart from any other cruise line, and immediately put them on par with many renowned land-based hotels and resorts, was the exceptional level of service provided both at sea and ashore. Genuine, welcoming and friendly without being overly familiar. The combination of a spectacularly designed vessel and a staff and crew dedicated to the highest levels of service quickly propelled Crystal Cruises to the very top of luxury travel.

Crystal Cruises operates the two top-rated luxury ships in the world: the 922-guest Crystal Symphony (launched in 1995) and the 1,070-guest Crystal Serenity (launched in 2003). Crystal Harmony was retired in 2005.

With a signature commitment to service and innovation, Crystal Cruises continues to define the luxury travel experience. Beyond the beautifully designed ships, they continue to create enriching onboard programs that tap the curiosities and passions of world travellers. They were the first cruise line to truly invest in technology services for guests with the launch of the Computer University@Sea in 1997.

Crystal Cruise Ship Cabins

Equally as innovative, the Creative Learning Institute partners with leading names in language, music, wellness and wine, with complimentary, progressive courses of study offered by Berlitz, Yamaha, Cleveland Clinic, the Tai Chi Cultural Centre and the Society of Wine Educators. And the Crystal Visions Enrichment Program regularly showcases some of the world's most celebrated names in art and history, journalism and television, stage and screen, U.S. and foreign diplomacy, food and wine, and more.

Believing that culinary discovery is inextricably connected to world travel, they launched one of luxury travel's most sophisticated and enriching wine and food programs. The overwhelming success of the Wine & Food Festival cruises led them to design and build a Vintage Room aboard each ship where they host exceptional dinners that pair rare and undiscovered wines with special menus designed to enhance the nuances of each particular vintage.

In 2009, Crystal debuted the Experiences of Discovery voyages, an inspired collection of theme cruises designed to enrich dozens of itineraries each year with a special-interest focus. Stylish and sophisticated, the onboard programming is augmented by shore-side adventure as well, showcasing topics such as Photography; Ancient Civilizations; Chance & Fortune; Mind, Body & Spirit; Jazz; Golf; Film & Theatre Festival; Cabaret at Sea; Big Band; Ballroom Dance and of course the Wine & Food Festival cruises.

Discovery ashore is unrivalled with a staggering collection of more than a thousand Crystal Adventures shore excursions offered every year, each designed to appeal to specific areas of interest and physical ability. Crystal Private Adventures tailor shore-side experiences to the specific desires of guests, creating once-in-a-lifetime memories in some of the world's most fabulous destinations.

Dress Codes Defined Onboard Crystal Ships

Each evening on a Crystal cruise has a specific dress code for dining areas that also applies to all public areas of the ship after 6 pm (except for alfresco dining on deck when available). If you choose to change your attire following the evening dinner and other festivities, please maintain a minimum style of dress in keeping with the dress code for Casual Evening Attire (described in detail below). Guests find that the occasional formal nights create a special atmosphere in contrast to the other more informal or casual nights on board.

The three codes of attire are formal, informal and casual. Typically, 10 to 14 day cruises have three formal nights. The number of informal nights is usually based on the number of days at sea, and casual nights are based on days in port or the time of departure. For your convenience, your cruise ticket lists the number of specific dress code evenings during your stay on board.

Formal Evening Attire Onboard Crystal Cruise Ships

Formal attire is evening dresses and gowns of fashionable length for ladies, and a tuxedo, dinner jacket or dark suit and tie for gentlemen. Jeans, shorts, casual trousers, sport shirts, and caps or baseball hats are not permitted in the dining room or our specialty restaurants after 6 pm.

Jeans, shorts, sport shirts, and caps or baseball hats are not permitted in the dining room or our specialty restaurants after 6 pm.

Casual Evening Attire Onboard Crystal Cruise Ships

On casual evenings, a more relaxed attire is accepted, such as casual dresses and trouser suits for ladies, and sport shirts and casual trousers for gentlemen. Ties and jackets are not required. Shorts and baseball caps are not permitted after 6pm. Casual daytime attire is not considered acceptable attire after 6 pm.

Oxygen Onboard Crystal Cruise Ships

Portable oxygen tanks and concentrators may be used on board, provided Crystal Cruises is notified in writing, no later than 30 days prior to sailing, that a guest is bringing his or her own oxygen equipment, and has made direct arrangements with an independent medical contractor who has agreed to undertake all required arrangements without involving the ship's onboard Medical Centre and its personnel. The oxygen-dependent guest must travel with a companion who is also completely familiar with the operation of the concentrator.

Oxygen-dependent guests are limited to those cruises on which they can be properly supported by equipment vendors and which have itineraries that will easily allow medical disembarkation if it should be required. The number of oxygen-dependent guests using portable equipment is very limited on any cruise. Requests for oxygen equipment for a specific cruise will be processed in the order of date received.

Wheelchair Access, Use of Scooters & Power Wheelchairs & Facilities for the Physically Challenged Onboard Crystal Cruise Ships

Guests with any disability, including those primarily confined to wheelchairs or scooters, are medically oxygen dependent, are hearing impaired or use service animals, must notify Crystal Cruises at the time of booking as they may be required to submit forms for Release and Indemnity through Planet Cruise. Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity were designed to be accessible for the physically challenged, with ramp access to most decks and public areas. Ships' elevators can accommodate most wheelchairs, power wheelchairs or motorized scooters that do not exceed 22" wide, allowing access to all public decks. It is strongly recommended that the guest be accompanied by a travelling companion for better access to all areas on and around both Crystal ships, as well as ashore.

Certain staterooms offer extra-wide doors, fully wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and wheelchair-accessible closets with low-fitted hanging rods. Some suites offer limited wheelchair access to personal facilities.

As some ports of call are anchorage ports and others may be challenging, physical conditions may preclude guests requiring wheelchairs or scooters from going ashore. This decision is made at the discretion of the ship's Captain or doctor, and is binding.
