CRUISING WITH CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE
Carnival Cruise Lines, the world's largest cruise line, was formed in 1972 offering quality cruise holidays at affordable prices onboard a fleet of spectacular modern super-liners which represent outstanding value for money. The fabulous "floating resorts" of Carnival cruise to locations such as the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Mexican Riviera, Alaska, New England and Canada, and now to the Mediterranean.
Whilst you cruise to your next destination the entertainment never stops onboard Carnival ships. Listen to bands (from salsa to swing)! The dance club, piano bar and casino are lively until four in the morning and even the "midnight" buffet starts at 12.30 because there's so much to do with Carnival. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of casual or formal dining choices, be amazed by Carnivals Las Vegas-style extravaganzas performed in magnificent theatres and enjoy cabaret, comedy and music galore.
With 22 spectacular super-liners to choose from, today's Carnival has re-defined contemporary cruising, adding an astounding array of amenities and events to suit every kind of traveller.
In 1996, Carnival introduced the first passenger vessel to exceed 100,000 tons, the Carnival Destiny. It was also the first major cruise line to build and operate a completely smoke-free cruise ship, Carnival Paradise (though restricted smoking is now allowed).
But perhaps the biggest potential improvement is in culinary quality due in part to working with Michelin three-star chef, Georges Blanc, who is developing new menu entrees throughout the fleet and instituting training for Carnival chefs both in his Vonnas, France, restaurant and aboard the ships themselves.
In 1990, Carnival launched its immensely successful Fantasy class of ships, 2052-passenger vessels at 70,367 tons. These include Fantasy, Ecstasy, Sensation, Fascination, Imagination, Inspiration, Elation and Paradise. As the cruising market changed, Carnival realized there was a need for even larger ships and Carnival Destiny, a 101,353-ton ship that carries 2,758 passengers, debuted in 1996. She was followed by two sister ships Carnival Triumph in 1999 and Carnival Victory in 2000, both of which added another 700 tons and 58 staterooms, bringing their capacity to 2,758 passengers.
Carnival continued to update and upgrade its ships with three new additions in 2002: Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend and Carnival Conquest. 2003 marked the debut of Carnival Glory, the second in the Conquest class. In 2004 Carnival Miracle (part of the Spirit class), and Carnival Valor (another Conquest class) entered service. A fourth Conquest-class ship, Carnival Liberty, launched in 2005, enjoys 22 themed lounges and bars, a fabulous new Spa and myriad dining options.
Children play in a 4,200-Square foot play area, teens can enjoy their own dance club and soda bar, while everyone can watch movies in Carnival's new "Seaside Theatre" – an incredible movie screen on deck! Carnival Freedom, the fifth and final in the Conquest class was officially named in March 2007. Carnival Splendor, slightly larger than Conquest-class vessels, was launched in spring 2008. The fleet's largest vessel, weighing in at 130,000 tons and carrying a double occupancy load of 3,608 passengers.
Plus, the line maintains its two remaining "classic" ships, the nearly 20-year-old 46,052-ton Holiday, offering four- and five-night cruises out of Mobile, Alabama and the 17-year-old 47,262-ton Celebration, departing from Jacksonville, Florida, on four- and five-night itineraries.
Staterooms: Carnival staterooms are 50% larger than those on other contemporary cruise lines. On some ships, 80% have ocean views and of those, 80% have private balconies.
